The Austin Plant supports the Electro Communication Business operations of 3M by manufacturing electronic hardgoods products and supporting new product introduction scale ups.

Process Engineer 0801484

The position of Process Engineer, located at the 3M Austin, Texas Research Site will provide engineering support in the Fiber product areas and new product scale ups. Responsibilities include driving significant quality improvement, cost reduction and product/process optimization through the use of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies. Manufacturing Engineers provide tactical support for our day-to-day operations, demonstrate strong leadership skills, lead projects from conception through implementation and participate in strategic input sessions to facilitate continuous improvements and technological advancements. Additional responsibilities include working with product scale-up projects and supplier continuous improvement programs, documentation of operating procedures, and coaching production on quality control strategies. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.

Although relocation benefits have been authorized for this requisition, they will be limited in that there will be no home purchase, and the total benefit provided under 3M's relocation policy will be capped at no more than $25,000.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 1+ years of manufacturing experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering or other advanced education in a related field
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodology for sustained continuous improvement
  • Proven interpersonal and communications skills across all levels

    Process Engineer 0801483

    The position of Process Engineer, located at the 3M Austin Plant, Research Site will provide engineering support in the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Assembly department. Primary focus will be on leading process product understanding enhancements and driving yield improvements for the PCB department. Key projects will be: providing technical leadership in support of a lead free PCB assembly process, working in close coordination with laboratories in the launch of new products, supporting increase board shop utilization and working to vertically integrate PCB assemblies into the plant. Responsibilities include driving significant quality improvement, cost reduction and product/process optimization through the use of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies. This position will provide tactical support for our day-to-day manufacturing operations, demonstrate strong leadership skills, lead projects from conception through implementation and participate in strategic input sessions to facilitate continuous improvements and technological advancements. Additional responsibilities include working with suppliers on continuous improvement programs, documentation of operating procedures, and coaching production on quality control strategies. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Product responsibilities will expand across multiple divisions within 3M.

  • Previous experience with New Product Introduction
  • Proven interpersonal and communications skills across all levels
  • Previous printed circuit board assembly operations experience
