Austin MAES partners with Hispanic Scholarship Consortium (HSC)

"HSC unites minority-focused nonprofit groups to leverage collective ideas and resources in order to increase the enrollment of Hispanic students in colleges and universities. One avenue for accomplishing this goal is HSC’s Matching Funds Program, which doubles the financial aid available to students by matching, dollar for dollar, the funds raised by Consortium members for scholarships. Collaboration on projects like this creates dialogues between member and partner organizations that spark new initiatives and new approaches—and this is what HSC is all about." by HSC

Over 50 people were in attendance with 5 full tables playing hold'em...Congratulations to our winners and for all who participated and helped us with our scholarship fund raising effort.
* Vegas Raffle Trip winner - Fernando Perez
* 1st place Jason Porter received Vegas Trip
* 2nd place Omar Munoz received Makita Reciprocating saw, donated by USHCA
* 3rd place Vincent Slowazi received Vin 100 gift certificate
* 4th place Andrew Guerra received gift basket from Dominican Joe's
* Last 2 ladies in tournament each received $150 certificate to Tips Toes
& Tresses, Laura Gomez-Horton & Stacy Phillips.
* Stacy Phillips also took 9th place over all in the tournament.

Mario Marchan was the recipient of a $1000 Austin MAES Scholarship. Mario attended Albert S. Johnston High School. He has been accepted to the University of North Texas, where he will begin his studies in Biology with future aspirations of a career in medicine. Congratulations, Mario!!

Spring 06 Poker Tournament Results... posted 25May2006
With over 3 hours of play and over 30 poker players entered in the Austin MAES poker tournament it came down to Albert Rodriguez and Jeff Neuman for heads up play action. Each player took turns in the chip count lead but in the end only one winner could prevail and Jeff Neuman was our winner.
1st place - Jeff Neuman
2nd place - Albert Rodriguez
3rd place - Jeff Braussard
4th place - Amy C
5th place - Javier Valdez
6th place - Ed Reash

The election turnout set the stage for a close race, but in the end Albert Rodriguez prevailed as the winner between three outstanding candidates in one of the most tightly held elections in chapter history. A runoff election was conducted after the initial election results gave way to a tie between Albert and Pilar Sanches.
"Thanks to Pilar and Monica (Gonzalez) for making this a great election and all that they have done for MAES," said Albert, after the results were reported. Albert added, "When the Nominees were anounced, I knew the local chapter would do well regardless of the outcome. I would like to say Thanks for the vote of confidence and I look forward to continue working hard for MAES."
Please help us welcome Albert to his new position with Austin MAES. We would also like to especially thank Monica Gonzalez and Pilar Sanchez for their outstanding and enthusiatic participation in this election as candidates.
